Chetan Sharma has resigned from the position of Chief Selector of the Indian cricket team following his controversial sting operation video leak on February 15, 2023. Sharma has stepped down from his position after his shocking revelations shook the Indian cricketing fraternity like the issue of Indian players using fake fitness injections. The BCCI sources have confirmed the news of Sharma’s resignation. East Zone selector and former India cricketer Shiv Sundar Das is most likely to succeed Chetan Sharma as India’s Chief Selector.
Although BCCI considered the fact that Chetan Sharma was trapped in an unethical act of sting operation but his continuation on the post would have been questionable as his comments have caused a trust deficit among the current Indian players. This has also affected the current Indian team skippers Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.
Chetan Sharma has sent in his resignation from Kolkata where he is present to witness the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 final being played between Bengal and Saurashtra. He has kept his distance away from media personnel at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Sharma’s voluntary resignation has made it easier for the BCCI to appoint a new successor. The resignation has saved a lot of time for the BCCI, who would have otherwise engaged in a long-winding disciplinary procedure.
