India Women notched up their second victory at the ICC Women’s T20 world cup 2023 with a comfortable 6-wicket victory over the West Indies women. With this win, India has now equal points with England who is just at the top of the table based on their better net run rate. India finished the game in the 19th over. This is India women’s 8th consecutive victory against the Windies women. Also, this is the 15th straight defeat for the West Indies women in T20I cricket.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the West Indies innings got off to a poor start with the skipper Hayley Mathews falling for 2 runs in the second over of the innings. Taylor and Campbell put on a 73-run stand for the 2nd wicket to add some stability but the discipline of the Indian bowlers did not allow the Windies to run away with the scoring rate. After Taylor’s dismissal, the Indian bowlers ensured they kept their opponents to a below-par 118 at the end of 20 overs. Deepti Sharma was the pick of the Indian bowlers with 3 wickets for 15 runs in her 4 overs.

India women got off to a good start with the comeback batter Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma putting on a quick 32 in 3.3 overs. There was a mini collapse as Mandhana, Rodrigues and Verma were dismissed in quick succession which left their team struggling a bit at 43 for 3. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh steadied the ship with a 72-run stand that helped their team clinch the game and 2 crucial points.

Deepti Sharma was adjudged the player of the match for her outstanding bowling spell. India will face Ireland Women next on February 20 at St George’s Park, Gqeberha.
