The first test between India and Bangladesh played at Chattogram ended with a massive victory for team India. Zakir Hasan’s century on debut and Shakib’s enterprising 84 were not enough to avoid India from walking away with a 188-run win and going 1 up in the 2-test match series. Axar Patel ended up with 4 wickets and Kuldeep Yadav with 3. The remaining wickets were shared between Ashwin, Umesh and Siraj. Kuldeep Yadav was declared the player of the match for his 8 wickets and a gritty knock of 40 runs.

India was in early trouble at the beginning of the test match with Bangladeshi bowlers reducing them to 48 for 3. Gritty knocks from Pujara, Shreyas, Ashwin and some lower-order blitzes helped India post a score over 400.

The Indian bowlers ran through the Bangladesh batting line up and the team folded for a paltry 150. India decided to bat again and declared at 285 for 2 leaving Bangladesh to chase 512 in a little over 6 sessions. The Bangladeshi batters started well but it was near impossible to chase them.

With this win, India moves to 3rd place in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. India has 5 more tests in their kitty in the current WTC cycle. 4 of those will be played in India against Australia and the other one will start at Dhaka in a few days. India has the chance to go 2nd in the points table of the WTC 2021-23 if South Africa loses against Australia in the ongoing first test, which seems very likely.
