In a close match, Srikanth, a past World Championships silver winner, defeated China’s Weng Hong Yang. The score read 21-16, 15-21, and 21-18 in a one-hour and ten minutes long battle. His following contest will pit him against Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong, China.

Japanese Sayaka Hobara and Yui Suizu defeated N. Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sara Suni in doubles. The pair suffered defeat by 12-21, 14-21.

Fans will be hoping for better results from the Indian contingent later in the day in the first round. H S Prannoy, P V Sindhu, Kiran George, Aakarshi Kashyap, and the mixed doubles team of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy will compete now.

Overall, Indian shuttlers had a mixed day at the Swiss Open. Some lost and others moved on to the next round. Lakshya Sen and other players would be frustrated with their early departures. But, Kidambi Srikanth and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty will be expected to keep up their strong play and advance further in the competition. The campaign is still far from over, therefore Indian supporters will be expecting improved performances from their players in the following games.
