Apart from Ishan Kishan’s swashbuckling double century and Kohli’s record-breaking 72nd international century, Karun Nair’s emotional tweet was also making the headlines. On the evening of 10th December, Nair tweeted “Dear cricket, give me one more chance” to which his fans reacted emotionally. He last donned the Indian jersey in March 2017.
Karun Nair made his ODI and Test debut for India in 2016. Since then he has represented India in 6 Test matches and 2 one-day internationals. He has also played in 76 IPL matches representing various teams, the last one being the Kolkata Knight Riders. In 85 first-class matches, he has scored over 5900 runs with an average touching 49 and the highest score of 328.
Nair became an overnight sensation when he scored an unbeaten triple-century in his debut test series against England in 2016. He and Virender Sehwag are the only two Indian players to have hit triple centuries in the longest format of the game. In terms of games played, Nair also set a record for being the fastest batsman in Test cricket history to register a first triple ton. India won that test match by an inning and 75 runs.
Fans of Nair took to Twitter to encourage him. Some fans wished him good luck for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season while some asked him to thrice the effort to get into the Indian team.
Nair was in great touch in the recently concluded Maharaja T20 Trophy (erstwhile Karnataka Premier League). He aggregated 257 runs at a strike rate of 146.02 and an average of 23.36. He hit one half-century during the tournament and his highest score was 91 not out.
India is scheduled to play a 2-test match series against Bangladesh starting December 14th.
