Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the India vs New Zealand 1st ODI match and the subsequent matches of the ODI series due to a back injury. The BCCI has announced Rajat Patidar as Shreyas’ replacement in the Indian ODI squad vs New Zealand starting January 18. The BCCI statement which declared Iyer’s back injury added that he will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to regain match-fitness. 

The BCCI has not yet mentioned the exact nature of Iyer’s injury or any other information regarding the same. Shreyas was last injured in March 2021 during a match while fielding and he missed cricket for the next 6 months. The back injury is his first injury since returning back to cricket in 2021.
