Saurashtra skipper Jaydev Unadkat has created history in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 tournament against Delhi on January 03, 2023. Unadkat became the first bowler in the history of the Ranji Trophy to bag a hat-trick in the very first over of the match. The 31-year-old achieved this feat against Delhi at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Delhi won the toss at Rajkot and opted to bat first in their first encounter of 2023. Little did they know that at the end of the 1st over, their top 3 will be blown away.
The event started on the 3rd ball of the very first over when Unadkat castled Delhi opener, Dhruv Shorey, for a 3-ball duck. Following this, he bowled some beauties to remove Vaibhav Rawal and Yash Dhull in the next 2 deliveries. Delhi’s scorecard read 0 for 3 at the end of Unadkat’s over.
At the time of publishing, Delhi’s scorecard stood at 108 for the loss of 8 wickets. Unadkat’s current bowling figure looks like this –
9 – 29 – 6 (ovr-runs-wkt)
The last time someone took a hat trick in a Ranji Trophy game was way back in the 2017-18 season. The feat was achieved by Karnataka’s Vinay Kumar against Mumbai. Kumar picked up a wicket in the last ball of his first over and then in the first 2 deliveries of his next over.
