BCCI launched the new team India T20I jersey before the start of the 1st T20I match between India and Sri Lanka at Wankhede Mumbai on January 03, 2023. In team India’s new T20 kit, the biggest change was the exchange of jersey rights from MPL to Killer. It comes as a shocker because the BCCI had earlier announced that the jersey sponsorship rights will only be open for grabs after March 2023. However, it seems the spectators are going to watch the men in blue walk out in Wankhede on January 03 with the “Killer” logo on their right chest.
We tried to go to the official website of BCCI to find out if they had put out any prior notice regarding the transfer of jersey sponsorship. There was no information available regarding the same. Interestingly, the BCCI official website still reflects the name and logo of MP as team India’s official kit and jersey partner. However, according to Insidesports, the jersey rights have officially exchanged hands.
Looking at the last 6 months, BCCI has lost 3 big sponsors – Paytm, Byjus and MPL. BCCI had given its domestic rights to Paytm who transferred the same to Mastercard. Byjus ended its contract before the due date and now MPL has done the same – it seems.
The current jersey and kit rights of the Indian cricket team (both men and women) now lie with the parent company of Killer – Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (KKCL).
