Shubman Gill becomes the youngest and the 5th Indian batter to score an ODI double hundred in the 1st one-day match against New Zealand at Hyderabad on January 18. This is Gill’s maiden ODI 200 and with this feat, he marks his name in the glorious list of double-hundreds scored by Indians. The list contains names like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. India set a target of 350 runs for New Zealand to win the match and go 1-0 up in the 3-match ODI series.

Shubman Gill is also now India’s youngest batter to score a double hundred in an ODI match. He beat Ishan Kishan by 352 days to become the youngest Indian to score a 200. Ishan achieved this feat last month when he smashed the fastest ODI double hundred against Bangladesh.

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first on a good pitch. Initially, Rohit was the aggressive partner while Gill took his time to get used to the conditions. After Rohit and Virat were dismissed quickly, Gill took the onus upon himself and launched a counter-attack to propel India to 349 for 8 in 50 overs.
