Dasun Shanaka’s 20-ball half-century and handy contributions from top-order batsmen like Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka powered Sri Lanka to 206 for 6 in the 2nd T20I at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Sri Lanka was on the top from the 2nd over of the match and rare failures from Dhananjaya de Silva and Bhanuka Rajapaksa did not stop the Lankans to post a formidable total on a good pitch. Shanaka’s late blitz gave the Lankan bowlers an extra cushion against a strong batting lineup.
A great batting display was complimented by poor Indian bowling as well. Arshdeep Singh went for 37 runs in his 2 overs whereas Mavi was taken for 53 from his 4 overs. Umran Malik also conceded 48 from his 4 overs but he picked up 3 wickets. Extras from the Indian bowlers did not help their cause as they indeed up conceding 12 extras – 7 of which were no-balls.
This is the first instance when Sri Lanka posted over 200 against India after 2010. This is also the first instance of Sri Lanka posting a total of more than 200 against any opponent since 2018.
Umran Malik was the pick of the bowlers from the Indian camp. He finished with 3 for 48 from his 4 overs. Axar picked up a couple of wickets for 24 runs while Chahal also had an average outing. He picked up one wicket while conceding 30 runs from his 4 overs.
