Britney Spears and her spouse, Sam Asghari, have parted ways after a marriage of 14 months. According to sources in Variety, the renowned pop star has enlisted a team of prominent Hollywood attorneys. It is in preparation for their divorce.
Spears has engaged the services of Laura Wasser, a top-tier divorce lawyer known for representing celebrities. She has also roped in her formidable legal advocate, Mathew Rosengart. Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor, famously played a pivotal role in securing her release from her conservatorship. It liberated her from her father’s control.
Variety’s attempts to reach out to Wasser and Rosengart for comments went unanswered.
Who is Britney Spears’ Husband Sam Asghari?
In September 2021, Asghari—recognized as a fitness trainer, model, and actor featured in series like “Black Monday” and “Hacks”—proposed to Spears. The couple subsequently tied the knot in June 2022. Their relationship had commenced over five years prior. It originated on the set of Spears’ 2016 music video for “Slumber Party,” a track from her album “Glory.”
Regrettably, a representative for Asghari refrained from responding to Variety’s inquiry regarding the separation.

Britney Spears Conservatorship
At the time of her engagement to Asghari, Spears was still under a conservatorship. However, she was on a trajectory towards emancipation from this legal arrangement, thanks to the diligent efforts of Rosengart, who successfully advocated for the suspension of her father’s authority—a crucial step towards ending the conservatorship.
During the final stages of her 13-year conservatorship, Spears conveyed her aspirations to marry Asghari and expand her family. She revealed, however, that she lacked the authorization to do so, as her financial affairs and most aspects of her life were overseen by conservators, notably her father, Jamie Spears. In June 2021, Spears pleaded with the judge, “I would like to progressively move forward and I want to have the real deal. I want to be able to get married and have a baby. I was told right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby.”
Legal experts confirmed that under a conservatorship, the conservatee lacked the capacity to independently enter agreements such as marriage. Hence, approval from conservators would have been imperative for obtaining a marriage license. “Technically, she can’t sign off on the marriage license while under conservatorship,” explained an attorney.
Following the termination of her conservatorship in December 2021, Spears was granted the authority to execute legal documents independently. It marked a pivotal shift after more than a decade of restricted agency. This newfound autonomy included the ability to sign a marriage license. Roughly six months later, Spears and Asghari exchanged vows.
Where did Britney Spears’ Wedding Ceremony Take Place?
The wedding ceremony took place at Spears’ residence in Thousand Oaks, California, featuring an intimate gathering of approximately 60 guests, including notable figures like Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton. Notably absent were Spears’ father, mother Lynn Spears, and sister Jamie Lynn Spears.
This union marked Spears’ third marriage, and while she and Asghari did not share children, they announced a pregnancy in April 2022—though Spears later disclosed the loss of the baby in the following month.

Previous Marriages of Britney Spears
Spears’ previous marriage, her second, yielded two teenage sons—Sean and Jayden—with Kevin Federline, her former backup dancer, to whom she was married from 2004 to 2007. In 2005, the couple starred in a short-lived reality show titled “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.” Spears’ initial marriage was to her childhood friend, Jason Alexander; however, it was annulled after a mere 55 hours in 2004. In 2022, Alexander made headlines for attempting to crash Spears’ wedding to Asghari, leading to his arrest for trespassing.
Notably, Wasser previously collaborated with Spears in a custody battle against Federline for their two sons. This marks a continuation of their professional association. Wasser’s extensive client roster includes notable figures like Kim Kardashian, Kevin Costner, Angelina Jolie, and Johnny Depp, each involved in high-profile divorces.
Spears’ Current Activities
Turning to Spears’ career, she has released two songs following the conclusion of her conservatorship: “Hold Me Closer,” a collaboration with Elton John, and “Mind Your Business,” a track featuring will.i.am. Furthermore, fans can anticipate the release of a much-anticipated tell-all memoir in October, accompanied by a landmark multi-million dollar book deal.
As of now, neither Spears nor Asghari has commented on the dissolution of their marriage.
