The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) sources have confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the ODI series against Sri Lanka starting January 10 in Guwahati. The sources said that the BCCI does not want to rush Bumrah into playing for India after what happened to him when he was rushed into action during the home series against Australia in September last year. Bumrah is not part of the ODI squad that has flown to Guwahati for the first one-day international between Sri Lanka and India.
The BCCI released a statement on January 03 that on the recommendation from the All India Senior Selection Committee (AISSC), they are including Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI squad for Sri Lanka. The statement was issued in a media release. Bumrah was recommended by AISSC after the NCA declared him match fit.
In a new discovery, behind BCCI’s decision to not rush Bumrah into action was a particular NCA staff. The BCCI has decided to pay heed to his recommendation in the context that India has two important assignments ahead of them – the home series against Australia and the ICC men’s 50-over world cup. However, he might get a chance to play in the T20I or ODI series against New Zealand to give him some game time.
The BCCI has not announced any replacement for Bumrah in the ODI squad.
