The Indian Women’s Cricket team recorded one of the most fascinating wins against Australia Women on December 11. The Indian women’s cricket team pulled off a stunner in front of 47,000 spectators to level the 5-match T20I series 1-1. Smriti Mandhana played a sensational knock of 49-balls 79 to take her team across the line after the match went into super over. She was declared the “Player of the Match” for her stellar performance.
India-W won the toss and elected to field first at the DY Patil Stadium. Beth Mooney and Taliah McGrath’s unbeaten scores of 82 and 70 respectively powered the Australia women’s team to 187 at the end of 20 overs. Chasing a mammoth 188, India started well and the first wicket pair of Mandhana-Shefali put on 76 in less than 9 overs. Thereafter, wickets fell at regular intervals but the Indian batters kept scoring at will. Eventually, they finished on 187-5 at the end of 20 overs.
The super-over started well for India as Richa Ghosh pumped the very first delivery from Graham for a six. She fell in the very next delivery. But, Mandhana continued to tonk the ball and India-W eventually finished on 20. Chasing 21, Australia-W could only muster 16 runs even though the very first delivery was hit for a boundary.
Mandhana, during the post-match presentation ceremony, emphasized how beautiful the wicket was to bat on. She and Harmanpreet were vocal about the fact that the team was keen on not repeating the previous mistakes.
India-W will face Australia-W in the 3rd T20I at Brabourne Stadium on 14th December. The live coverage will begin at 19:00 HRS local time.
