The BCCI has confirmed that a total of 409 players will participate in the inaugural auctions of the Women’s Indian Premier League to be held in Mumbai on February 13. The WIPL franchises will bid for these players to fill up the available 90 slots on the date above. The final list of players who will go under the hammer comprises 246 Indian players and 163 overseas players.
A total of 1525 players registered for the WIPL auctions 2023 from which 409 players were finally shortlisted. In combination, the teams will have 90 vacant slots, including 30 overseas slots. 207 uncapped players have been included in the final WIPL 2023 auctions list out of which 8 belong to associate nations.
Players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Deandra Dottin, Meg Lanning, Elleyse Perry, Sophie Devine and Alyssa Healy have been slotted in the highest reserve price bracket, i.e INR 50 Lakhs. Additionally, 30 players have been slotted in the next reserve price bracket, i.e INR 40 Lakhs.
The inaugural edition of the Women’s IPL will start from March 04th onwards. Team Ahmedabad and Team Mumbai will face each other in the opening encounter to be played on the 4th of March. The BCCI has confirmed the tournament will consist of 22 games to be played in 2 venues in Mumbai – Cricket Club of India (Brabourne Stadium) and DY Patil Stadium.
